Vanishing act

I find it… not so much irritating as sadly disconcerting when someone simply stops talking to me when they get into a relationship. It makes me feel like a social placeholder, being used to fill in a gap until what they really want comes along.

And it really doesn’t help me want to make new friends.

That’s happened to me more than once. It’s like ‘what, I’m not good enough to be a full-time friend?’
Or, conversly with some folks, ‘What, because I won’t give in to your flirting, you want nothing to do with me?’

it is sad when that happens, but it does happen often. it is one of those things that helps me determine if someone is a true friend or not… real friends survive relationships of all kinds.
