Between an article my dad sent me from the NYTimes and the video below, I think I really saw today what people like the most about Obama: Not what he promises, just that he encourages people to be hopeful. And that’s the one thing people need the most, particularly right now; more than promises of improvement, of protection from evil, more than someone telling them how it’s going to be. Because people are used to being lied to, to the point that they don’t even notice anymore. They just want someone to encourage them to believe that things will be better, regardless of who delivers it, and that they can be a part of it.

Hello! Jennifer showed me yer post [i’m her roommate/nanny/friend] and I just had to comment.
I’ve been pretty into this whole election, and just from the small amounts of curiosity and concern i’ve motivated myself enough to be at least a little informed about what is going on. what i’ve noticed is that everyone in our age group [i will assume you are in your 20’s] in this nation seem to be leaning toward obama. the older, mainly hillary.
obama, in my mind, is the most logical vote other than ron paul – the only thing stopping ron paul from winning is the fact that most people don’t think enough people will vote for him, or at least i think – it would be like wasting your vote. one puppet, or the other… i have a feeling that if obama becomes president [he has been behind in all the whatever the pre vote state things are for a while, which is disappointing], and there remains no change, proving we have been lied and lied to, the younger population will probably riot against the government, …at least i hope. 😛
you know the speech he wrote concerning race? the really epic one everyone was talking about… he wrote that himself, which is also impressive.
anyway. jeez. i’m sorry for rambling on and on… i like this post, just had to talk about it. 😛

Glad you enjoyed the post. While I don’t see the current generation rioting against the government anytime soon, it is at least good to see them getting more involved this time around. But even moreso, it’s encouraging to see candidates that are able to string together a complete sentence.
I think the Democratic candidate voting demographics are pretty clearly based on the candidate impressions themselves: Hillary represents the enduring experience of the older voters, Obama represents the fresh idealism of the younger. Sadly, the two rarely blend well, because we could really use both. But personally, this year I’d rather see idealism brought in tempered with an experienced cabinet. A major shakeup is sorely needed more than slightly different business as usual, if only for four years.
