After a relatively painless flight, that is to say, painless for 12 hours in economy, I’ve made it to Beijing. Impressions so far are extremely limited due to the late arrival time:
– Freeway traffic is completely dynamic (read: insane). Lane markers, turn signals, and speed limits seem fairly optional, as it’s not uncommon for cars to straddle lanes, dart around without signaling, and pick a speed at random.
– My jetlag was not helped by the surreal greeting upon entering the hotel of a lounge pair in one corner of the lobby singing “Copacabana”.
– The cops here have the coolest hats. I wonder if I can get one.
That’s all for now. Think I’ll collapse for a while.
