Picture-perfect

…minus the actual photographs. I’m somewhat disappointed I neglected to charge my camera battery this weekend, especially tonight, but really, this weekend was a total-experience kind of thing anyway. Perfect Oregon summer weather lent itself to cruising the Saturday Market, Shakespeare In The Park playing “Taming of the Shrew”, two outdoor house parties, breakfast reading the entire Sunday paper, swimming and sunning by the river, and eating Swedish meatball pies and aebleskivers at the Scandanavian Festival. The weekend was even given an official “topping off” during the end of the Scandanavian Festival, when the three vikings attending the ceremonial pageant spotted me in the bleachers wearing a paper viking helmet and hauled me up on stage, declared me an official viking through some kind of knighting ceremony, and had me help with the opening ceremonies. In the words of Dave Barry, I swear I am not making this up.

It was by no means a jam-packed weekend, but it was a well-spent weekend.

Next weekend will be a housewarming party at Ben and Katy’s, and only my second Smith trip this year. My climbing has taken a serious back seat so far this year, but it’s by no means put away. I just mounted a bolthanger next to my fingerboard to work on my clipping, and on Thursday I inexplicably made it up Satisfaction for the first time ever. The sirens of climbing are calling to me…
