Google Earth is an amazing tool. I discovered today that Google has partnered with National Geographic to create hotspots over Africa linking to NG articles about that location, and have even taken an arial photography series and overlayed the photos onto the satellite imagery to the point that you can make out the spare tire and roof cargo on a Land Rover making its endless drive over desert tracks. All these images coupled with Michael Palin’s book Sahara that I’m currently reading make me want to see these things for myself, but not just yet. I need to get some more tourist-friendly destinations under my belt first.
