Back in the hand-shredding saddle again

Two males square off in the rarely-photographed ritual climbing dominance dance

As suddenly, unexpectedly, and satisfyingly as a falling chunk of a passing 747 landing in your yard on the shitzu that keeps crapping on your azaleas, the fantastic weather that makes 9 months of rain bearable in the northwest arrived this weekend. To usher it in properly, I met up with Katie and the Bens at Smith for the first time this season and started the season properly, with plenty of hard trad and harder heckling. We did some old nemises and some routes I’d never tried before, including a fantastic 11b finger crack that I managed to thrutch and dog my way up and really must do again soon.

I’m so ready to jump into this season. And Spring Thing weekend after next!
