Two dollars!!

So today at lunch, I go down to the office cafe, and oddly enough they’re offering really good-looking seared ahi tuna. While waiting for mine, the cook starts bitching that when he ordered the fish, he didn’t know he had ordered the highest-grade tuna the supplier had, essentially sushi-grade tuna. He tells me he going to take a bath on it, plus he’s going to have to freeze whatever’s left at the end of the day.

Now, I simply can’t abide seeing premium fish go into the deep freeze, so I offer to buy some off him. The guy is so happy to have a taker, he gives me two massive steaks and charges me a measley $2 for the lot. I mean, we’re talking some $30+ of fish here.

So tonight, by god I’m making me some sashimi, and possibly even some sushi and wasabi tuna musubi.

My chopsticks runneth over.

    Dude… I can’t believe I passed on that!
I saw it and gave the cook a load of shit about how his fish was still pink in the middle… Background story: the first time they served it, the guy in front of me bitched to the cashier because the fish he got was “still raw in the middle”. Man!.. that set off the cook (while he was still preparing mine). “The menu CLEARLY says ‘seared’ tuna! If the dork wants COOKED tuna, there’s some over there in the sandwitch case slathered with mayo!!!” yells the cook. We laughed and I enjoyed a great lunch.
He remembered that incident and we laughed again at “the dork”.
Dunno what was wrong with me today to skip it, though 😦
