Everything I’ve seen about New Orleans, be it news coverage or blogs kept by people in the heart of the warzone, has been unerringly blasting the aid organizations and authorities for doing next to nothing. News reporters on the scene were openly and harshly criticizing the authorities. And there hasn’t been a damned word from those responsible, not even to apologize or offer an explaination.

What’s happening here? There’s tens of thousands of people in need, and I’m sure it’s hard to get to all of them, but at least keep them informed. Uninformed masses are dangerous masses. I’m not one to get caught up in disaster drama, but this isn’t just tragedy, it’s not pointing fingers at what should have been done, this is a case where something needs to be done that clearly isn’t.

I am having a hard time with just living a normal life… I stop periodicly throughout the day and am stunned that buisness is going on as usual. it breaks my heart.

Yes, this is a pretty big disaster. But nothing will get acomplished by bitching and moaning. It’s nobodys fault. No political party caused this disaster to happen (no, hurricanes do not hate freedom, and they were not sent by terrorists).
And above all.. here’s a small hint… if someone has come to your community to bring aid and relief, try not to shoot at them. That sort of thing tends to really delay the whole relief process.
New Orleans will rise again. Hopefully it will be built better and safer than before….. Whole nations have come back from alot worse (ie: post war Europe and Asia).

I totally agree. When the cops can’t leave the station to go address an explosion in a building downtown, because snipers are firing at them? that’s a clusterf&*k.
I can’t fathom the reasoning of the people out there shooting. If you’re in imminent danger – sure. But shooting as a sniper to those out in the streets trying to provide you with information and assistance? Don’t complain about not getting help ..

Yes, there’s an overwhelming number of people being incredible dumbasses in NOLA preventing proper from being given, and that’s perfectly understandable where the shortcoming there is. But these days, lack of information dissemination is inexcusable. People went days without seeing a single official, and when they did, some refused to answer questions. Others were given a waypoint for evacuation that was cancelled but they were never told. With a disaster of this magnitude, coming up short on aid isn’t surprising, but coming up short on info is.

I imagine it’s pretty hard to even keep people informed about what is happening. It sounds like a pretty huge clusterf&*k to me, and I suspect (fear) we haven’t seen the worst of it yet.
Imagine if it had hit as a Cat5?
