Girlscout cookies are the instrument of the Devil, and spring weather is my salvation

Oregonians tend to see very little blue sky, particularly in the fall, winter, and even early spring months. So most likely, as you peruse various blogs, you can inevitably identify the Oregonians by the sheer volume of pictures they take of just blue sky.

Spring has arrived in force, and has brought with it two inevitabilities: the salvation from winter cold, and the temptation of Girlscouts camped out at every supermarket exit. Young, eager girls sent out onto the streets under the simple guise of selling cookies to raise funds, but they know as well as you, the first box is just to get you hooked. The Girlscout organization works with the efficiency of a Columbian drug cartel, and I’m sure the only reason they don’t sell cookies year round is they just don’t have the political clout that the tobacco lobby does to keep Thin Mints decriminalized.

The weather however was my saving grace today. The past couple days I’ve been in a truly foul mood, ready and willing at a moments notice to make it very clear that world could just fuck off. Sitting inside, a geriatric stone’s throw from a giant picture window displaying the vast amount of cloudless sky, was not terribly helpful. But within that span of 15 short minutes of my drive home, my window down and arm out, Elvis Presley singin the GI Blues, the sunshine took the paddles to my mood and I got my rhythm back.

Summer is coming.
