Stoke

Last night was a pure stokefest. Back to back, muffster and I watched Warren Miller: Ride and Riding Giants (about the history of big wave riding). I now really, really (really) want to hit some water, either in powder or liquid form. This winter has kinda been the suck for skiing, but dammit, I want to get on the slopes at least once this year. And I really didn’t get enough waves over New Years.

Watching the two in the same night, I got a new appreciation for how similar the two sports can be at the extreme upper limits. I always recognized the parallels of surfing and snowboarding, but with big wave riding, dropping in is just like getting helidropped onto a ridge that starts on a 70% slope. And really, falling will hurt just as much either way. Although for the two experiences to be truly similar, the snowboarder would have to be chased by an avalanche on every run.
